The Fun Of Cooking Using Thermomix® That Lead By Chef Theresa Lee

For those that know me well, you will know I enjoy having a good food but not the preparation part. As you need to wash, cut, blend, cook and wash yourself.  But with Thermomix®, my cooking process is simple as 1, 2, 3 step. Thank you to Thermomix® for the invitation and I having fun cooking using Thermomix® with the guidance by Theresa Lee.

If you read my previous post, Theresa Lee just launched Thermomix ® Easy Meals For The Family. Thermomix ® Easy Meals For family is the first Thermomix ® cookbook with step-by-step pictorial guide for cooking and plating for more "challenging" recipes, such as cute animal buns, dim sum style egg tarts, teriyaki chicken rice balls, chicken hor fun and salted chicken, can be recreated at home with Thermomix ® to taste and look like those professionally done in bakeries and restaurants. The book features a collection round-the-clock meals for the family and are categorized into recipes for breakfast, lunch, tea break and dinner.

In this post I will be sharing two delectable recipes. I get to hand on using Thermomix® TM5 and I personally think, it is easy to handle. Thermomix® TM5 is everyone’s perfect kitchen helper Let's discover the smarter way to cook with Thermomix® TM5. 

Steamed Chicken Floss Cake


130g plain flour
20g chicken floss, plus extra for topping
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
90g corn oil, plus extra for greasing
3 eggs, A-sized
110g sugar
100g hot water
1 tbsp. toasted black sesame seeds


1. Grease a rectangular baking tin (15cm x 8.5cm) with corn oil and set aside. Place a bowl onto mixing bowl lid, weigh in plain flour and chicken floss. Add baking powder and salt to the bowl. Mix and set aside. Place a jug onto mixing bowl lid, weigh in corn oil and set aside.

2. Insert butterfly whisk, place eggs and sugar into mixing bowl, whisk 6 min/40 degree/ speed 3.

3. Whisk 1 min/speed3, meanwhile, pour reserved corn oil very slowly onto mixing bowl lid, letting it drizzle around measuring cup in a thin stream onto rotating blades. removing butterfly whisk.

4. Without measuring cup, mix 1 min/ speed 2, add chicken floss mixture one spoon at a time through hole of mixing bowl lid. Gently mix the batter with spatula and pour into prepared baking tin, sprinkle with extra chicken floss and black sesame seeds. Cover baking tin loosely with parchment paper to prevent water condensation from dripping into steamed cake. Place baking tin in Varoma dish.

5. Place hot water into mixing bowl, set Varoma into position steam 30min/ Varoma/ Speed 1. Carefully open Varoma lid, remove the parchment paper. Allow the cake to cool completely on a cooling rack. Cut into slice before serving

Tamarind beef Curry


600g beef meat, cut into strips (1cm)
2 tbsp. fish sauce
1-2 tbsp. tamarind paste, adjust to taste
100g hot water
80g onions
100g shallots
4-6 dried chilies, soaked to soften
4-6 red chilies
100g fresh ginger
10g galangal
20g water
40g oil
2 stalks fresh lemongrass
2-3 tbsp. curry powder
2 kaffir lime leaves, shredded
180g fresh coconut milk
1 tbsp. salt
10g lump sugar


1. Place a bowl onto mixing bowl lid, weigh in beef meat. Add fish sauce to the bowl and mix. Set aside. Place another bowl onto mixing bowl lid, weigh in hot water. Add Tamarind paste to the bowl and mix. Deseed and set aside.

2. Place onions, shallots, garlic cloves, dried chilies, red chilies, galangal , ginger and water into mixing bowl, blend 15 sec/speed 10 or until fine paste is achieved. Scrape down sides of mixing bowl with spatula.

3. Add oil, lemongrass and curry powder, sauté 10 min/120 degree/speed 1. 

4. Add marinated beef and reserved tamarind juice, cook 8 min/12 degree/ /speed  

5. Add kaffir lime leaves, coconut milk, salt and lump sugar, cook 3min/120 degree/ speed and serve hot.
