Awareness Regarding Cancer

World Cancer Day is recognized to raise awareness and education about the disease, and press governments and individuals across the world to take action every 4th February.

Cancer is a generic term for a large group of diseases that can affect any part of the body. One defining feature of cancer is the rapid creation of abnormal cells that grow beyond their usual boundaries, which can then invade adjoining parts of the body and spread to other organs.
Every year, 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide, out of which, 4 million people die prematurely (aged 30 to 69 years old).

We can prevent from cancer risk by :
  1. ·    Stop smoking
  2. ·    Regular exercise
  3. ·    Eat more fruits and vegetables
  4. ·    Minimize alcohol intake
  5. ·    Reduce exposure to non-ionizing radiation
  6. ·    Practice safe sex
  7. ·    Wear protective personal equipment when handling body fluid
Listed below are some types of cancer and its screening method:
·    Breast cancer: clinical breast examination, mammography and other imaging techniques
·    Cervical cancer: HPV testing, Pap smear
·    Colon and rectal cancer: Fecal occult blood test, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy
·    Lung cancer: sputum test, chest x-ray, spiral CT scan
