February 16, 2018

Is has been my dream to explore Muar since I was in University but time not permitted for it. Thanks to Tourism Johor, Tourism Muar and Travel Writers Association Malaysia (TRAM) for hosting 2D1N trip in Muar, Johor.

We departed from MaTic, KL and the journey take 2 hours to reach Muar, Johor. Upon arrival to Traders Hotel, Muar, we were welcome by "Kompang" and "Silat" (Traditional self-defense).

We were ushered to  Ballroom Meritus Muar, Traders Hotel follow by registration. The ceremony kick start with the speech from Director of Tourism Johor, Mr. Abdul Malik Ismail. According to Mr Abdul Malik Ismail, the purpose of this FAM trip is to promote Muar, Johor and he believe the crowd percentage will increase in this year. Muar not only famous with their local food but also well known with warm hospitality, cultural, nature place to be explored and etc.

Muar has become a development city and the biggest contribution are coming from Tourism industry, Nursery, Education and Furniture industry.  Thumb up to Muar people and they are one of the contributor to Malaysia economics. To cut a long story short, I going to share my first day trip in Muar.

Launching of Muar Travel Map

The best part, bicycle rider from Kelab Batu Berendam Basikal and Kelab Komuniti Pemilik Basikal Klasik Malaysia make an appearance at Traders Hotel, Muar to show their support for the FAM Trip. Frankly speaking, I am touch with Muar people sincerity and hospitality. Before I move on, Muar actually well known as Bandar Maharani Bandar Diraja.

Photo session at Bangunan Sultan Abu Bakar Muar before depart to Muar Mural Trail at Jalan Arab, Muar. So sad our team missed out the photo session. Sob..Sob...

The journey to Mural trail only take 10-15 minutes and it depends on the traffic. The story behind this mural is so touching and it worth to be remembered. The Mural is name " The Loving Sisters" and draw by Julia Volchkova, 28, a Russian Mural artist. She bumped into these two sisters name Nur Najwa Aliesya, aged 7 and Nur Najiyah Amani, aged 3 at Tanjung Emas by coincident and captured the photo with beautiful facial expression especially the pairs of eyes. Why two sisters? The affection demonstrated by the two sisters represent the strong sense of belonging and attachment among Muarians to the royal town. I agree with the statement. " Orang Muo, Gaya Muo".

We proceed to Hindu Temple that know as Sri Thandayuthapani Nattukottai Chettiyar Temple Muar or known as Nattukottai Chettiars' Temple. I was impressed with the design of the temple. Nattukottai Chetiyar Temple is the oldest temple in Muar. The uniqueness of the temple is colourful and features a beautiful steeple of the dome made with Hindu architecture elements. The local Hindu will come to the temple to pray for Lord Murugan's blessing. The monks given us their blessing and we get to witness the beauty of the temple.

Is time for lunch and we straight proceed to Parit Jawa that well popular for Asam Pedas dishes. The journey  from Pekan Muar to Parit Jawa take around 45 minutes. The journey a bit tough as we need to pass by a small and rocky road. Thanks to PDRM that escort us during the journey.

Parit Jawa also known as fishing village and this place boasts of delicious fish dishes such as Asam Pedas. Asam Pedas is their signature fish and a must try. Beside Asam Pedas, they also serve fresh and juicy seafood.

What's next? Let's check out the best lion dance in Muar. The lion dance will be performed by Kun Seng Keng Lion and Dragon Dance Association. Lion dance is Chinese traditional dance whereby performers mimic a lion's movement in a lion costume that believe will bring luck and fortune.

Kun Seng Keng Lion and Dragon Dance Association was founded in Muar since 1988 by Mr. Tan Chong Hing. Kun Seng Keng managed built their reputation in the world lion dance arena since 1992. International Kun Seng Keng Lion Dance Federation was established in 2010 with 9 conjoining countries. I am impressed with Kun Seng Keng Lion & Dragon Association spirit. Keep it up.
