" My Skin, My Confidence " Campaign By Hiruscar Post Acne

I'm once in depression situation due to acne problem . Acne and acne scarring can hurt more than just your face. It affects people mentally and emotionally too. My back, neck and face were covered in spots. My back was hit worst, so I would always wear a shirt over strappy tops or high-backed tops. Acne really effect my self confidence as I feel embarrassed when people stare at me with a strange look. 

In Malaysia, acne affects over 85% of individuals aged 12 to 24. The Journal of Primary Healthcare reveals that the prevalence of facial acne is about 67.5% among adolescents in Malaysia with a rising trend of facial acne with increasing age. The study also indicates that acne is more common among male adolescents aged 13 to 18 with 71.1% boys and 64.6% girls. 

Thanks to Hiruscar Post Acne for organize a meaningful campaign to create awareness on the incidences acne scarring in Malaysia. Hiruscar Post Acne has invited 3 guest speakers to share regarding the campaign . Through this campaign " My Skin, My Confidence", Malaysian will get better understanding regarding acne scarring and take a better control for their skin condition. The guest speaker is Pang Koon Yin, Senior Manager of Marketing Management in Healthcare consumer Health, Dr. Lim Ing Kien, Dermatologist and Founder of Medi-I Skin Studio and Low Mi Yen, a clinical psychologist



Pang Koon Yin, Senior Manager of Marketing Management in Healthcare Consumer Health said, “Many young adults experience acne or facial blemishes at certain phases in life and most of them do not realize that there is a solution to the issue. Scars may develop in different forms, shapes and sizes, even the slightest scar caused by acne and dark marks may affect one’s quality of life. In response to this, the My Skin, My Confidence campaign is timely to urge young adults out there to take control of their scarring condition. Left untreated, acne scars may cause severe consequences to a person’s physical, mental and social well-being - from lack of confidence to even depression. 



Explaining the negative implications of scarring, Dr. Lim Ing Kien, Dermatologist and Founder of Medi-I Skin Studio said, “Facial appearance represents a significant aspect of how one perceives his or her body image, which can cause a major impact affecting the overall quality of life. Acne, or commonly known as pimples, may eventually lead to permanent scarring resulting in scars and dark marks. Without proper care and treatment, the condition may deteriorate and worsen the acne inflammation. It is important to educate the public on how acne scarring takes place at different stages and to treat them before it becomes a hindrance, especially for women.”



While Low Mi Yen, a clinical psychologist explaining, “The relationship between the severity of acne and emotional distress is poorly understood although people are aware that acne can be a source of distress and embarrassment. People who suffer from acne scarring may not feel comfortable attending social gatherings as they tend to be more reserved due to lower self-confidence. The psychosocial effects of acne scars can cause substantial negative impacts on one’s overall social and functional well-being, thus affecting their quality of life.

Through this campaign, Hiruscar Post Acne will keep educate the students about the formation of scars and different skin conditions and help them to boost / regain the self -confidence by visiting 10 Universities around Klang Valley. Recently , Hiruscar Post Acne has organinized two days symposium with pharmacists in Bangsar and Johor Bahru.
